Reflections

A week has gone by since Devizes experienced the Bishop Stephen and Team phenomena and we are at Clergy Conference – a different experience which will be blogged on another occasion. I had a few days off between the two and on one day whilst gardening I reflected on my view of the time in Devizes.

The one thing that stood out for me was the way people worked together, there was a blurring of the edges and all took their part in the activities which suited their talents and skills. There was a genuine warmth for the town especially the people. One of my tasks was to interview people in the Market Square and everyone was very positive about the people telling me about the help and support that had been offered them.

The hospitality was second to none and it came as quite a shock to not only cook meals but decide on what to cook! Although I am not a morning person, in as much as I prefer a quiet breakfast and time to ‘come to’, I found the breakfast after a time of worship a positive way to start the day, all were different but each hit the mark.

On a personal note I never thought that I would I would find myself at a prayer station in a pedestrian shopping area. But there I was in The Brittox on a couple of occasions and thoroughly enjoyed the experience so much so that my friends are fed up of hearing about it. So thank-you to those who were with me and those with whom I talked and prayed.

I also want to thank those who set the whole thing up, it was a tiring week but also a life-giving time and I am still feeling full of the joys of spending a week in Devizes.
